Delaware’s State Park system draws millions of visitors every year, but the most unique park in Delaware is farther off the beaten path. Brandywine Springs Park is actually a county park, but it’s maintained by the non-profit organization Friends of Brandywine Springs. Check out what makes this park so historic, and so special.
The most unique park in Delaware is tucked away on the outskirts of Wilmington, halfway between the riverfront and Hockessin.
Back in the late 1800s and early 1900s, this park was a huge, world-class vacation destination. A resort and amusement park all popped up thanks to one landmark - Chalybeate Spring.
After the amusement park and resort was shuttered and demolished, many people forgot about the historic, mystical spring. That's when Friends of Brandywine Springs stepped up.
Thanks to their tireless efforts, Chalybeate Spring was excavated, and the park now has more reminders of the past. Stop in to walk through this unique park in Delaware and take a glimpse back in time.
