August came in like a lion for Delaware, and Tropical Storm Isaias made quite the impact on the First State. If you were without power or dealing with trees and poles down around your property, you aren’t the only one! This powerful storm may have spawned three rare Delaware tornadoes.

When Tropical Storm Isaias roared across the Delmarva peninsula, it left an unexpected path of destruction, particularly in the Middletown-Odessa-Townsend Area.

Trees, telephone poles, and tractor trailers were overturned and flung about as three potential tornadoes ripped across the area.

The National Weather Service will have to come and survey the damage to officially declare the damage as the result of a tornado, but many eyewitnesses have already suggested a twister is what tore up the town.

Tornadoes are not uncommon with tropical storms or hurricanes. Later, the same part of the storm that brought destruction to MOT was filmed bringing a huge twister from the ocean onto the Jersey Shore.

The twisters left a path of destruction in their wake, but Delaware's linemen and first responders are already working around-the-clock to help the state recover.

When you hear tornado sirens or your phone alerts you to a tornado warning, be sure to pay attention! Get to a safe spot as soon as you can. A basement or the interior room on the lowest floor of a building is generally the safest from these kinds of storms.
