Delaware has a long history with trains and the railroad. Several towns, like Delmar, were founded solely around the need for a railroad stop! The days of traveling across the country in a steam engine may be over, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t plenty of Delaware train enthusiasts – if you love the history behind the steam engine and trains that helped build our state, this road trip is for you.
This trip will take you through all three of Delaware's counties on a quest for a train adventure!
Trains depart in the early afternoon and can take you on all sorts of adventures. This weekend is their theater train - The Great Train Robbery - where you can participate in a once-in-a-lifetime adventure! In a few weeks, it'll be time to take the unforgettable Fall Foliage Train Ride.. Check out the Wilmington and Western Railroad's site for schedule and excursion information.

The Harrington Railroad Museum is a fun, educational stop on this trip!
Visit the museum at
108 Fleming St. Harrington, DE 19952 to learn about the history of the railway in Delaware, see a restored caboose and railroad tower, and more.
A drive down to Georgetown will bring you to the town's historic restored train station.
If you happen to get there on the first saturday in September, you can tour for free. Otherwise, enjoy the history of this decommissioned and fully restored vintage train station on your own!
