Alpacas are incredible animals. They’re gentle, quiet animals that produce soft, silky fleece that’s perfect for creating clothing, blankets, and other knitted items. There’s an alpaca farm right here in Delaware that you can tour to meet alpacas up close. Check out TaCaCo Alpaca Farm:
Please note, Tacaco Alpacas has closed their farm and shop.
TaCaCo Alpacas of Delaware is owned and operated by Blair and Kelley Boyce, and they got the name of their farm from the first two initials of their grandchildren: Tatum, Caleb, and Colbie. The Boyces are committed to raising healthy, happy alpacas, and they'd love to introduce you to their herd!
Alpacas are social animals who prefer to live in herds. They grow to around 36 inches tall at the withers, and can weigh between 100 and 200 pounds. They love to eat fresh hay, and a little bit of grain.
Alpacas are well-known for their incredible fleece. The animals are shorn in the spring, and the fleece is spun into soft yarn that's perfect for knitting hats, scarves, clothing, and more. Alpaca fiber comes in 52 natural colors and is warmer than wool.
Take a tour of the farm to meet the alpacas. You'll get a chance to say hello and feed them little pellet treats. Tours are free, but donations are welcome. You'll need to book your tour in advance.
The farm offers pizza, drinks, alpaca cupcakes and cookies, games, crafts, a pinata, and birthday decor. The birthday child also receives a stuffed alpaca toy.
TaCaCo Alpacas of Delaware is open only for tours and birthday parties during the summer. The store is also open by appointment. In September, the farm and store will open again - watch the Facebook page or website for updated hours.
