Did you know that Delaware is one of the most important stops on the International Flyway? That’s right – it’s not just travelers in the Mid-Atlantic who take shortcuts through the First State! In November, December, and January, thousands of Snow Geese flock to the First State, and they create stunning displays in farmland fields and coastal marshes on their journey.
Snow geese are unique - and pretty adorable, if you're an animal lover. Delawareans have a front row seat to their migration every winter.
Thousands - if not millions - of snow geese call Delaware home for a few weeks every year. Are you looking to track down a flock and watch their impressive aerial shows?
Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge and Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge were both established for the protection and conservation of bird habitats, so the geese all love these large coastal marshes. Drive through and you can bird watch while staying warm!
Most of us will see these birds in their huge flocks in Sussex County farmlands. Hundreds of them take a break all at the same time, and they're quick to be startled and fly away. What a scene!
Of course, it's no surprise that the coast itself is a main place to spot thousands of geese. After all, our beaches are some of the best resort towns in the country, and the birds want a piece of the action, too.
Where is your favorite place to watch the Snow Geese? Do you have any great pictures you’ve captured of their migration this year? We’d love to see – share them with us in the comments!
