The Small Town In Delaware You’ve Never Heard Of But Will Fall In Love With

It's located west of the Indian River Bay, on Millsboro Pond. It's a pretty small town, with a population of around 3,900.

Historic buildings, like the old bank building on Main Street, are contrasted by modern stores and shops scattered throughout town.

The Volunteer company is one of the oldest in the state, dating back to the early 1900s, and helps keep the town protected and informed.

The boat ramp allows for fishing, kayaking, or just hanging out on the water. It's a beautiful, quiet pond that really shows you the beauty of this little town.

Millsboro's natural conditions have added quite a bit to Delaware history, in that both the highest and lowest temperature in the state were recorded here. On July 21, 1930, the temperature hit 110 °F, and on January 17, 1893, the temperature fell to -17 °F. Only three other states have had the highest and lowest temperature recorded in one town.

There are at least twelve sites listed on the National Register of Historic Places in Millsboro, including the Robert Davis Farmhouse, Harmon School, Isaac Harmon Farmhouse, Harmony Church, Hitchens Chicken Farm, Indian Mission Church, Indian Mission School, Indian River Archeological Complex, Johnson School, Perry-Shockley House, Warren's Mill, and Wright Farmhouse. Millsboro is home to one of the most underrated museums in Delaware - the Nanticoke Indian Museum. Visit to learn about the tribes that originally inhabited the land that we now call Delaware, and attend one of their public powwows or their Heritage Day in the spring.
