In the 1970s, the small railroad town of Hockessin welcomed a small lunch spot right on the tracks. The Back Burner, as it was called, offered cooking classes that were wildly popular with the locals. Eventually, the restauranteurs relented and began serving dinner, too. Though it has since moved from its trackside spot, the Back Burner has been one of the best small-town Delaware restaurants since it began serving up those gourmet dinners in 1982.
You would never know just by looking at it, but the Back Burner is one of the most elegant small-town restaurants in Delaware. One of the best meals of your life is waiting behind this humble storefront!
When the Back Burner was founded in the 1980s, it was a small spot on the railroad tracks that taught cooking classes. Today, you can enjoy a gourmet meal here.
Some of the gourmet dishes on the menu would impress even the most finicky foodie. While the menu changes seasonally, an example of what you can find is this Rohan duck breast with white chocolate celeriac, confit, roasted roots, kale, lentils, and port jus. Wow!
Stop in for happy hour and try one of their delicious seasonal cocktails. They're refreshing in the summer, and they're sure to warm you up in the winter.
When you treat yourself to a meal at the Back Burner, you’re treating yourself to an experience at one of the best small-town restaurants in Delaware! Stop in to enjoy a gourmet meal with your family. After all, you deserve to be spoiled!
