Newark may be the best foodie town in Delaware. Not only is it the place to go for the best bagels around, but the ice cream from UDairy is famous across the state, and up and down Main Street, restaurants are packed with students, commuters, and locals alike. One spot that always seems to draw a crowd is Taverna. This rustic Italian trattoria serves up homestyle cuisine that’s among the best you’ll find here in the First State.
Taverna is easy to spot on Main Street, with big bright windows facing the road and practically welcoming you in with open arms.
Start off with homemade bread to dip and enjoy, but make sure you don't scarf it all down so that you save room for the incredible meal that's soon to come.
Taverna's brick oven is always hard at work making rustic pies, from traditional margherita to their signature San Daniele with prosciutto, mozzarella, arugula, and their homemade tomato sauce.
If you have somehow managed to save room for dessert, try their signature brownie or any of their featured specials. Your sweet tooth will be grateful!
