Delaware’s Route 9 is one of the most scenic roads in the state. Take it from New Castle all the way down to Lewes to enjoy the best views of the Delaware shoreline, and you’ll encounter some charming towns along the way.
Our first stop, New Castle, is one of Delaware's most historic places.

Visit the New Castle County Court House Museum first. Here, there are rotating and permanent displays of historic artifacts and retellings of the stories that shaped early Delaware history. Then, head over to the town's historic district to appreciate the architecture and dine at Jessop's Tavern, a colonial restaurant that's so much fun to visit
Delaware City is the next place on your way down Route 9 South.
Did you know that Delaware City is one of the most haunted places in the world? Not only is the Sterling Hotel home to ghosts, but Crabby Dick's is rumored to have a spirit upstairs, and Pea Patch Island is haunted by ghosts of the Civil War.
Head down to Woodland Beach if you're looking for some peace and quiet.
Woodland Beach, DE 19977, USA
This small coastal community is known for its tiny bayshore beach and enormous fishing pier that just way out into the bay. Woodland Beach used to be home to an enormous amusement park and resort, but a tidal wave washed most of the town away when a Hurricane roared in, in 1878.
Finally, it's hard to top any time spent in the little town of Bowers Beach!
Dine at JP's Wharf - be sure to try their strawberry pie and fresh-from-the-bay oysters. If you'd like to try catching your own dinner, book a chartered fishing trip with The Pros. And if you love history, stop by the Bowers Beach Maritime Museum and learn all about the nautical history of the coast - including plenty of pirate and shipwreck action!
