One of the Most Haunted Places in Delaware, The Rockwood Museum, Has Been Around Since 1851
In Wilmington, Delaware, 169 years ago, a gorgeous Gothic mansion was built for a man by the name of Joseph Shipley. To this day, it still stands, though it’s been repurposed over the years.

Passed down from Shipley to his great niece, Mary, the house remained well taken care of. Upon her death at 100 years of age, Mary left the house and surrounding land to her niece, who subsequently left it to a local church- who decided they didn't want the property on their hands. From there, it went to Chancery Court - who subsequently deeded it to New Castle County.

Over the years, people have come and gone, but the mansion has ultimately remained the same.

The 72-acre site features a garden, a picnic grove, bird watching and paved trails. Strange things have been reported in every area of the mansion and the land it sits on.

It has been said that visitors and employees alike have experienced varied phenomena including cold spots, disembodied voices whispering from seemingly nowhere, and even full-body apparitions walking the premises and halls of the house.

In 2011, the Rockwood Museum was featured on an episode of the Biography Channel's "My Ghost Story." It was also seen in a season 11 episode of the hit series "Ghost Hunters."

The park surrounding the museum boasts lighted walking trails, and is open from dawn until dusk. Take a stroll around the grounds if you dare - never mind that you might meet a ghost!

The museum holds tours of the grounds throughout the day. Visits are very affordable at just $10 for adults and $4 for the little ones.
