Here in Delaware, there are countless natural wonders to explore. Despite the relatively small size of our state, there’s no shortage of breathtaking overlooks that will provide a unique perspective of the landscape. Today, we’ll introduce you to one such place that’s a bit off the beaten path. Head to a residential area of New Castle County and you’ll find Rockford Park, home of the namesake tower with a fascinating history. Here’s more on the lookout tower that lets you see for miles.
Welcome to Rockford Park, a beautiful landmark in northern Delaware marked by grassy meadows and proximity to the Brandywine River.
Its original purpose was twofold: to serve as a water tower and a lookout tower. The steel cylinder water tank is surrounded by spiraling stairs, which visitors can take for incredible views from the top.
At this increased elevation, you can enjoy beautiful views of the surrounding area, including the Brandywine River. It's nearly impossible not to gain a new appreciation for this part of Delaware after climbing the tower.
So whether you're looking for a relaxing day at the park or an adventure and a new view of Wilmington, you'll be glad you added Rockford Park to your itinerary.
