Delaware locals will always have an opinion on the best restaurant, and we certainly know our favorites for nearly any type of food. In fact, so many readers chimed in with suggestions for our Delaware Burger Bucket List that I’m soon starting Part II! We’ve got opinions on the best crabcakes, the best seafood, the best Italian food and more – don’t even get us started on Pizza! Lucky for our opinionated selves, the fact that the holiday season is upon us might meant that family is coming into town, and who better than to push our Delaware dining opinions on than someone from out of state? So, if you’re looking to impress your great aunt that you see every decade, or just want to find a place your younger cousins will enjoy (and maybe even Tweet about!), take them to any of the following classic Delaware restaurants.
Boondocks is the ultimate Delaware crab house, even though it's located in the middle of a corn field. Their Swamp Water is a Delaware classic, so bring your out-of-town family here for a great local experience.
Step back in time to Delaware's colonial days at Jessop's Tavern in New Castle! Old-time fare and staff dressed in period clothes mean this is one Delaware culinary experience your guests won't forget!
If all of your out of town guests are over 21, head to Sambo's for a very traditional Delaware culinary experience. Fresh caught crabs seasoned perfectly, ready to be torn apart and paired with your favorite lager... you'll feel like it's summer again! Legendary Sambo's holds several "Best Of" awards, so whether your crowd is looking for crab cakes or other seafood, they'll love Sambo's.
If you want to impress your family with the best Italian food in Delaware, take them to DiFebo's in Bethany Beach, and make sure at least someone orders the signature veal chop - it might be the best one they'll ever have.
Delaware's fanciest gourmet restaurant is the ultimate place to take your family if you're all looking to splurge. The highest rated restaurant in Delaware according to culinary experts will not disappoint you, and the atmosphere is as elegant as it gets.
Restaurant 55 is the place to go for a great burger in Delaware, particularly if your family has some adventurous eaters! Their daily specials show off the most creative burgers in the state, and a meal here is a Delaware culinary experience that will blow your taste buds away.
Like Sambo's, Woody's has been at the top of more "Best Crabcakes In Delaware" lists than we can count, and the atmosphere is fun, too! If you're looking for a Delaware culinary experience by the beach, take your guests here and enjoy my favorite crabcakes - no filler at all.
Woody's is another top contender for best crabcake in the state, and that alone is a reason to visit. The atmosphere here is beachy and busy, which fits the location perfectly. If you're on a quest for the best seafood in Delaware, then Woody's needs to be one of the stops on your list.
1904 Coastal Highway Dewey Beach, DE 19971
If you want to show off a fresh, farm-to-table culinary experience in Delaware, then head down to Salt Air. You can show off the adorable town of Rehoboth Beach while it's still in the holiday spirit and then stop in to this incredible local restaurant for some of the freshest, most honest food in the state.
Sometimes, the toughest part about having to plan a family dinner night out in Delaware is finding a place where everyone will be happy. Some people don't eat seafood, some are into veggies more than burgers, and others are strict carnivores - it can be hard to please a crowd! If this sounds like your struggle, then head down to The Backyard in Milton, where everyone in your group will find something on the menu that they will absolutely love - like the Eggplant Stack shown above, or a fresh burger or panini. Of course, I can't ever mention the Backyard without suggesting you try any (or all!) of their homemade desserts.
I stand by my statement that Tacos Chabelita in Laurel serves up the best Tacos in Delaware, so if you've got family visiting on Taco Tuesday, head down to the cute river town of Laurel.
