Anyone who lives in Delaware can attest that our parks, forests, and hiking areas are some of the most underrated in the country! Next time you want to get some fresh air and explore your own backyard, head to the Middle Run Valley Natural Area and see just how beautiful the First State truly can be.
In Newark, Delaware, you'll find Middle Run Valley Natural Area, an 860-acre park focused on encouraging reforestation and natural preservation.
There are more than 10 miles of trail through forest, fields, and hills in the park itself, and connector trails can bring you to White Clay Creek State Park for some of the longest hikes in the state.
Middle Run is a wildlife enthusiast's paradise. Over 190 species of birds call this place their home! Bring your binoculars and see how many you can spot.
Since 1991, Delaware Nature Society volunteers have planted more than 50,000 trees and shrubs within the Middle Run area, and the new growth forest creates a beautiful landscape.
