Delaware is an underrated foodie state, and people are often surprised when we take them to try some of the best food in America. One spot that’s hiding in the First State is a salumeria that makes some of the tastiest homemade meats you’ll ever get the chance to try.
There aren't many salumeria left in Delaware, but luckily, Wilmington residents have access to the best of the best.
Maiale is a tiny salumi shop that makes all sorts of homemade meats, from sausage to salami to prosciutto, and nearly every other Italian cold cut you can think of.
Pick up sweet or hot Italian sausage, or mix up your normal routine by trying foie gras "hot dogs," or wild boar sausage with apples, caramelized onions, and blue cheese.
Maiale is more than just a place to pick up meats. You'll find some of the best breakfast sandwiches in Delaware being made here every morning for hungry commuters.
Their lunch menu is amazing. Forget your normal fast food or bagged lunch routine and try muffaletta, turkey sausage, a braised short rib sandwich, or one of their award winning burgers.
For your next get-together, order an antipasto tray with your favorite Italian cuts, fruit, cheese, and more. Everyone will be raving about the flavorful meat!
There are so many reasons to love Maiale - and now, they've got a food truck rolling around, bringing all their sweet and smoky goodness throughout the First State. Visit in store, or track down the truck, and you'll be in foodie heaven.
Visit Maiale at 3301 Lancaster Pike, Wilmington, DE 19805. You’ll find the meat shop menu, food truck event listing, and information about upcoming events and specials on the Maiale website, here. This award-winning, mouthwatering meat shop in Delaware is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., and from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays. They are closed on Sunday, so buy your meat early in the week if you’re making a Sunday gravy.
