Most of the country recognizes the four seasons as Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall, but Delaware is a little different. Every year, from just after Labor Day through early October, we celebrate our own extra season. Local Summer in Delaware is the time for those who live in our beach towns to get onto the sand, stroll the shops, and go for a scenic drive, without worrying about the huge crowds that come here to enjoy our towns all summer long. Now that it’s here, the best ways to celebrate Local Summer are below.
1. Enjoy the Rehoboth Beach boardwalk, without the crowds.
Dewey Beach celebrates every year with an end-of-summer party in the middle of September. This year, it's on September 16th and features a bonfire, live music, and great food from local restaurants.
Local Summer in Delaware wouldn't be the same if it weren't for the great sidewalk and end-of-season sales at all of the unique boutiques in our beach towns.
Cooler weather means biking and hiking is a lot easier along the coast! The Gordons Pond Trail and Junction-Breakwater Trail are among the best to get to know once the leaves begin to change.
6. Go for a scenic drive without fighting beach traffic
The beach towns dont shut down entirely for the off-season! The Sea Witch Festival happens in late October in Rehoboth Beach and is one of the best festivals in the state! You can also enjoy the Dewey Beach Music Conference or the Elvis festival in Dewey Beach, or the many art festivals that Bethany Beach hosts in the fall.
