Chances are if you grew up in a small town in Delaware, you couldn’t WAIT to escape to something bigger and better. But looking back now, those small town experiences made you who you are today. Some of the things you hated then are some of your favorite reasons why you now know that growing up in small town Delaware was the best.
10. Whenever it snowed, you probably had a full day off of school, because the kids who lived way outside of town didn't get their roads plowed by the Department of Transportation for hours (even though someone probably already plowed the road with a tractor).
9. Trick or treating was legit. You knew most of the people who lived in the houses you went to and there were no worries about razor blades in apples.

8. When tragedy struck, the entire community helped out...from 5Ks to raise money for the family whose house burned down to the casserole brigade after someone died.
6. Everyone was a celebrity in his or her own way, whether you were a drum major, homecoming queen, FFA President, soccer captain, or Eagle Scout. And, you probably had your name or picture in the local paper more than once.
5. You probably knew some of your closest friends since you were born, and whenever you see each other, its like things never changed. You probably went to the same church, were on the same sports teams, or were in the same after school activities.

4. You personally knew your mayor, members of city council, the principal, and the school superintendent. When you needed help, you knew you just had to say something.
2. You knew everyone, and everyone knew you. It was safe. There was always someone watching out for you (good or bad).

1. The sense of pride and community you felt made your heart swell. And even though as a kid, you couldn't WAIT to leave, you're so glad you grew up in your small town.
Our guess is that the reasons we loved growing up in small town Delaware ring true for most other small towns in the U.S. This blogger couldn’t wait to leave, but I sure am glad I stayed!
