There’s something about dining on the boardwalk that makes everything taste better. Whether it’s candy, fried chicken, hot dogs, French fries, popcorn, or pizza – flavors just seem to improve the closer you get to the ocean! Perhaps that’s why Delaware’s most iconic pizza chain – Grotto’s – has been so successful. This Delaware business started off as a single pie shop in Rehoboth Beach, and today there are more than 20 locations. Still, nothing is quite as good as enjoying a slice by the ocean.
For more than 60 years, Grotto Pizza has been the name synonymous with slices on the boardwalk in Rehoboth Beach.
While the pizza parlor was new, they took to handing out samples and flagging down potential customers as they walked past. It didn't take long before Grotto was the talk of the town - because they make outrageously tasty pizza.
Every pie starts with dough made with the same time-tested recipe. It's a secret, by the way - dough makers have to sign a non-disclosure agreement before they learn how to whip up the stuff.
Whether you're stopping by for a pie to go, or you want to sit and reminisce about growing up with slices from Grotto, you'll find this welcoming pizzeria is the sort of spot where time stands still.
You’ll find two Grotto’s locations on the Boardwalk – one at Boardwalk and Baltimore, and one at Boardwalk and Surf. For current hours (they vary seasonally) take a peek at the Grotto Pizza website, here.
