Year round, travelers pass through Middletown, Delaware and observe a creepy white silo with a spooky face staring back at them. In September, October and November, the creepy silo’s beady eyes signal the seasonal opening of Frightland, a haunted “scream park” that has been scaring those brave enough to walk its grounds for 20 years. The story of Frightland follows the life of Dr. Thaddeus Idalia, a doctor who went insane when he found his daughter hanging from the rafters of his barn. Read below about how the psychotic Doctor turned a once-thriving farm into the creepiest attraction in Delaware.
The creepy silo is how you know you've found the right place.
My favorite attraction at Frightland is the haunted barn. Legend has it that Dr. Idalia found his daughter, Isabella, hanging from the rafters in an apparent suicide. Since that gruesome discovery, spirits, demons and other paranormal entities have found safety and company in the creepy farm building. This building is absolutely terrifying if you let yourself get into the whole feel of the Frightland story.

The Idalia Manor is the cornerstone attraction on the farm.
Dr. Thaddeus Idalia was a well respected doctor prior to finding his daughter's corpse hanging from his barn. After that discovery, he became a hermit and began to practice a different kind of medicine. He conducted unspeakable experiments on both human and animal subjects, trying to learn how to bring the dead back to life. Many of his subjects escaped the manor, but those who did not continue to roam the halls.

Wander the grounds until you have to face your worst fear.
Innocent victims were subjected to Dr. Idalia's "fear" experiments in a building hiding in the back of the property. Arachnophobia. Coulrophobia. Achondroplasiaphobia. Be prepared to feel the fright that these poor victims had to face at the hands of this maniacal doctor.
The Hayride is a great way to get to know them all. Rumor has it that many of the escaped experiment subjects have taken to hiding in the woods, and they don't like it when people disturb their peace.
Toward the back of the property, you'll find the Doctor's creepy cemetery.
Because his experiments were horrific and illegal, Dr. Idalia chose to bury the bodies in the back woods of the farm. You will find their spirits roaming the cemetery, waiting to confront those who enter their sacred space.
Dr Thaddeus Idalia got his sick, twisted ways from his father, Jacob, and some of Jacob's victims have taken up residence at Frightland, too.
Dr Jacob’s wife and two daughters were killed in a house fire intentionally set by Delaware outlaws. In an act of revenge, Dr. Jacob poisoned the well of the town, killing himself and everyone nearby. Now, his victims inhabit the Ghost Town area of Frightland.
If you love to be scared, you'll love your time at Frightland.
Of course, don't miss an opportunity to pose for photos with some of the creepiest of Dr. Idalia's remaining experiments.
Frightland is located directly on Route 13 in Middletown, Delaware, and it is open now for the year until early November. You can find specific hours and dates on their calendar for the dates and times they are open for the season. Not everything done on the farm is to frighten, though – a portion of ticket proceeds, and all of the of parking proceeds, go to benefit Leukemia Research Foundation of Delaware.
