Next time you’re looking to get out of the house, try something new and visit the first meadery in Delaware.
If you're looking for something a little different than a typical brewery, distillery, or winery tasting room, head to Wilmington and visit Liquid Alchemy Beverages.
This family-run venture was the very first meadery in Delaware!
Mead is a honey-based drink that was accidentally discovered more than 20,000 years ago.
When hunters discovered stagnant honey and water that had fermented, they drank it and were happy to find it had intoxicating properties. Ancient Greeks thought of mead as the drink of the gods. It was popular in Viking cultures, too!
Once wine was discovered, though, many people gave up on mead and began to grow grapes instead of raising bees. Today, however, mead is experiencing a resurgence in popularity.
Liquid Alchemy Beverages was founded in 2012 by Jeffrey Cheskin and Terri Sorantino. Jeff and Terry discovered this uncommon drink at a festival and began making it themselves.
Now, you can visit the "LAB" and try out a variety of flavored meads for yourself! Their tasting room is open and you can sample a variety of their drinks.
Liquid Alchemy produces more than a dozen meads and a handful of hard ciders. Be sure to try their famous "Thai-Grr" mead, made with home-grown Thai Chili peppers and fresh lime.
Keep an eye on their event calendar and you'll be able to plan to visit this meadery in Delaware when local food trucks are here!
Enjoy sandwiches, BBQ, pizza, and more when you stop by to try their tasty drinks.
Liquid Alchemy makes a line of hard ciders, too. If you're looking for a crisp and refreshing drink, you can't go wrong.
They have at least 5 ciders on tap at any given time, ranging from light and refreshing to a studier drink that's perfect for a chilly day.
This meadery in Delaware is open to the public! While no reservations are required to visit the tasting room, if you would like a tour, you'll have to book your trip in advance.
A trip to Liquid Alchemy is sure to please any beer or wine drinker! Try out some mead and you might have a new favorite beverage - this sweet drink with ancient roots is a crowd-pleaser.
