Ahhh… the Delaware beaches. Lewes, Rehoboth, Dewey, and Bethany are all huge summer destinations for Delawareans and East Coasters alike. They each offer amazing beaches, delicious restaurants, quaint shopping districts and a history of being vacation hot spots. It’s no secret, though, that from May to September they’re crowded! And while they certainly all deserve their reputation for being incredible destinations, there’s another Delaware beach that seems to get lost in the mix.
The quiet town of Fenwick Island has everything you need for an amazing day (or week!) at the beach.
With shopping, restaurants, history and one of the best beaches in Delaware, you've got to start visiting! The State Park is a great place to park your car and experience the oceanside retreat. If you come onto the beach here, you'll have access to showers and bathrooms and well as a cute snack bar and gift shop.
Fenwick Island has some of the best restaurants in Delaware as well.
Between the Flying Fish Sushi Bar, One Coastal, Fin Alley and Jimmy's, you'll never run out of great places to grab a bite to eat. There are oyster bars, pizzarias, and small mom and pop places on every corner. Two Fenwick Island establishments made our Best Waterfront Restaurants list, two made our Best Seafood in Delaware and we picked Jimmy's as one of the greatest Tiny Restaurants in Delaware. No matter where you eat on Fenwick Island, you're going to have a great meal.

There are endless shopping opportunities, if you know where to look.
All throughout the town there are great little stores, boutiques, and even the famous (and gigantic) Seaside County Store. Wander the town and really get a feel for the community and commerce that Fenwick Island supports.
Fenwick Island's beaches are much quieter than Rehoboth in the midst of the summer, which makes surfing easier and safer, and leads to a more relaxing atmosphere for those who just love to lay in the sand and let the days go by.
The Fenwick Island lighthouse stands tall in the middle (yes, middle) of town, and the Transpeninsular Line is demarcated by this informative plaque. There are historic markers throughout town.
While you're in town, be sure to check out the Discoversea Shipwreck Museum.
The artifacts on display here are mesmerizing - and they really give you a great appreciation for the sailors that risked their lives to transport goods or discover new routes and places. This museum is great for children and adults alike - it's one of my favorite Delaware beach destinations. You can enter for free - but keep in mind that donations keep this place afloat.
Find the museum at 708 Ocean Hwy,
Fenwick Island, DE 19944.
So next time you’re ready for a day trip this spring or summer (or even this winter, with how mild the weather has been!) make sure you consider Fenwick Island, because it’s not fair that this perfect little down gets lost in the shadows of giants like Rehoboth Beach and Ocean City.
