I’m passionate about Delaware, that’s for sure. There are so many great places to eat, visit and explore that you could fill your calendar for a year and never run out of new things to discover! Sometimes, though, you just want to take a trip down memory lane and revisit all of your favorite Delaware places – from the best scrapple sandwich in the state to a restaurant where you’re always late for dinner. Pick a nice day and go have the most Delaware day ever and reacquaint yourself with the First State.
Buckle up, because you're about to have the MOST DELAWARE DAY EVER.
Even if you aren't a morning person, it's worth it to get up way before the sun and find a good spot looking out over the water from Port Mahon. The Sunsets here are the best in the state, and the quiet solitude will be a relaxing way to start your day.
Wilson's General Store has been around Georgetown for what seems like centuries! Stop in for their famous scrapple and egg sandwich and to talk to the owner, Jim, about the store's history. It's fascinating!
If you did eat an entire bucket of Thrashers in Rehoboth Beach, you can burn off some of the calories when you climb an observation tower in Cape Henlopen State Park. Enjoy the view of Delaware and the Delaware Bay before climbing down and exploring the remnants from an abadoned World War II army base.
Head up north for a water view, rowdy crowd, and the best crab picking in Delaware. Sambo's is a one of a kind place, and one of the most Delaware restaurants you'll ever visit.
Take a quick drive through Bombay Hook not just on your Delaware day, but on any day that you have time! I can't convey how impressive and magical the sanctuary is - it is by far one of my favorite Delaware places.
7. Try some homemade ice cream at UDairy Creamery in Newark
With locally sourced ingredients and seasonal flavors, grab a cone or an ice cream sandwich from UDairy Creamery in Newark! I love walking around Main Street, too, so if you've got the time, enjoy downtown Newark.
Every time I visit Old New Castle, I discover something that I missed the last time. Read the historic markers, visit the museums and old buildings, and enjoy the view from Battery Park. This part of the city is truly a treasure.
9. Be 200 years late for dinner at Jessop's Tavern
Jessop's is a colonial tavern that serves colonial food and the staff is dressed in colonial clothing! It's one of Delaware's only themed restaurants, and it's a great tribute to the settlers who started up in the First State. The food is delicious, too!
I love living in Delaware, and I keep discovering new places to add to my list of favorites. Where's your top spot to spend the a day?
A day spent at my favorite Delaware places is a day that I’ll enjoy for sure! If you want to add one more adventure into your day, I’d suggest checking out Delaware’s beautiful, hidden Fairy Trail – not many people even know that it exists!
