If you ask us, the First State is one of the most underrated states in the country. Oftentimes, out-of-state residents have no idea what wonders there are to living in Delaware. There are so many amazing Delaware privileges that many of us take for granted if we’ve lived here all of our lives. The rest of the country certainly doesn’t have it as good as we do: here are some of the best things about living in Delaware:

1. We're never too far away from a beautiful beach.

Our small size has plenty of benefits! No matter where you are in Delaware, you can always head to the beach on a whim and get there pretty quickly. Whether you like the rowdiness of party towns like Dewey or prefer the calm ambiance of more quiet towns, like Fewnick Island, there's truly a beach town here for everyone to enjoy.

2. We have access to some of the country's most incredible estates.

The DuPont family really left its mark on the First State. We can visit historic Hagley, the secret gardens of Winterthur, gorgeous Nemours and the oasis of Montchanin to really see history. These well-preserved estates are so incredibly beautiful.

3. You'll find the most delicious crab cakes in the world right here in Delaware.

Sure, those from Maryland might claim they have the most notable crab cakes. But those of us in the know are well aware that the best crab cakes in the world are from right here in Delaware. Just taste those crab cakes at Woody's in Dewey Beach and try telling us they aren't the best you've ever had!

4. We can paddle some of the best water trails around.

From Prime Hook to Blackbird Creek, you have no trouble finding an incredible water trail here. This is one privilege of living in Delaware that many of us don't take advantage of enough.

Delaware Bay oysters are famous throughout the world for their flavor. We're lucky enough to have the privilege of eating them straight out of the bay for the absolute freshest taste.

8. It's not just our food, though: we know how to make a great drink, too!

People come from all over the country to tour Dogfish Head Brewery. You'll also find your fair share of charming wineries in Delaware, too! The First State is even home to a meadery. No matter what your beverage of choice is, you'll be able to find it here.

9. We can stroll the world's most incredible boardwalk whenever we feel like it.

The boardwalk in Rehoboth Beach has truly everything you could possibly want. Funland, Thrasher's French Fries, Gus & Gus Place, Dolle's Candyland: all in one spot and ripe for exploration!

Overall, Delaware is a very safe place to live, and our small towns have especially low crime rates. If you enjoy small town life, Clayton and Arden are both exceptionally charming. If you'd like something a bit larger, Wilmington is our largest city and there are plenty of things to do in Wilmington, DE.
