Delaware Prisons On Lockdown As Hostage Situation Unfolds In Smyrna
Authorities in Smyrna, Delaware are responding to a hostage crisis at the James T. Vaughn state correctional center. Reports are unfolding of inmates taking guards hostage at this Delaware prison.

According to Delaware Public Media, the Delaware Department of Corrections confirmed the incident began approximately 10:30 a.m. and claims it is an isolated incident. However, also according to the same Delaware Public Media report, Delaware Representative William Carson (D-Smyrna) said he's been briefed on the situation and claims, "There’s an apparent hostage situation at James T. Vaughn Center and inmates have taken over a building."

The James T. Vaughn Correctional Center (JTVCC) is a Delaware prison for men and is located in New Castle County, near Smyrna. The facility, formerly the Delaware Correctional Center, houses some 2,500 inmates from minimum to maximum security.
