It’s finally spooky season here in Delaware: the leaves are changing, pumpkins are out on porches, and everyone’s really getting in the Halloween spirit! It’s time to get out and about to explore the scary side of the First State. If you’re looking for an eerie adventure to kick off your holiday adventures, head to one of Delaware’s most popular state parks for a chilling Delaware haunted hike.
Lums Pond State Park is one of Delaware's most beautiful natural treasures.
Back before the park was officially state protected land, it was an undeveloped patch of woods. The pond itself was popular for fishing, and many people escaped into the quiet woods for solace.

In the 1870s, one young girl from New Castle County ran away from an unhappy home, and found a spot to stay beneath the forest canopy.
Unfortunately for her, she was not the only one in the woods that summer. She was found by a vagrant who attacked, raped, and murdered her. Her body was found where the present-day Swamp Trail is placed.
This seven mile trail wraps around the pond, providing shoreline views and taking adventurers deep into the woods. While, for most, it's a great family hike, strolling alone may bring you an unexpected experience.
Time and time again, solo hikers hear shrill screams or cries for help coming from the woods.
It seems that the ghost of this young runaway girl is still struggling for help far too late. While many write off the tale of the young runaway girl as local lore and just an urban legend, those who've heard the cries from deep in the woods know this tale to be far too real.
Don't let the haunting dissuade you from exploring Lums Pond's beautiful fall foliage this autumn...
