The Most Terrifying Ghost Story To Ever Come Out Of Delaware Is Truly Chilling
With the weather warming up, I’ve been noticing more and more lakeside and beachfront bonfires, so it’s only appropriate to share one of the most terrifying, true ghost stories to come out of the First State. Gather ’round for the true Delaware ghost story about Woodburn, the Governor’s Mansion, in Seaford.

It wasn't an abandoned property prior to the purchase - in fact, just the opposite. Politicians, wealthy businessmen, doctors and other members of the Delaware elite called Woodburn their home. They weren't alone, though, and nearly every resident of the home reported paranormal happenings.

Since then, one of the more common paranormal experiences is to hear the screams and shackles of a slave raider, who attempted to break into the mansion when it was a stop on the Underground Railroad. The Mansion's owner chased him away, and he got caught in a tree and hanged himself to death.
Other commonly spotted ghosts include a young girl in a red gingham dress dancing in the garden, or an older man dressed in colonial garb who wanders up and down the stairs in the mornings.

You'd have no idea that the gorgeous, welcoming dining room is one of the most haunted rooms in Delaware! Ghosts dressed in colonial clothes have been spotted walking about and dining during breakfast at the table.

Other residents reported leaving full decanters out, only to find them emptied in the morning. These fun loving, party ghosts, would never hurt a soul (unless you get between them and their vino!).

You do have to make an appointment, but the mansion is open Monday through Friday from 8:30-4:00. To schedule a tour and perhaps meet some spirits for yourself, contact Corey Marshall-Steele at (302) 739-5656 or via e-mail at Corey.Marshall-Steele@state.de.us
