Delaware is a small state, and because of that, it’s easy to get familiar with nearly every top Delaware destination. Whether you’re from Camden, Selbyville, Greenville or Bear, here are some places that you most likely know inside and out.
1. Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk
Every Delawarean knows where to get fries, burgers, and salt water taffy on the Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk. We also know the best places to park even in the middle of summer.
2. Hagley Museum
This field-trip staple is one DuPont Estate that Delawareans visit over and over. The museum of American industry coupled with the stunning remnants of the first DuPont home in America leave so much to be discovered, but Delawareans who have visited all have their favorite spot on the grounds.
3. Winterthur
Another memorable DuPont Estate is Winterthur. Whether you visit for the Point to Point, the Enchanted Woods, or Yuletide at Winterthur, this classic Delaware destination is a family favorite.
4. Any and All Ice Cream shops
Delawareans know their ice cream. In fact, I am pretty sure that my
Delaware Ice Cream Road Trip post had more comments and opinions than most of my others! Some of us are fiercely loyal to our local ice cream shop, others know which creameries have the best flavors depending on what were in the mood for. Regardless, we know this states ice cream scene inside and out.
5. Spence's Bazaar
Spence's Bazaar is one of Delaware's classic flea markets, and many Delawareans know Spence's vendors, where to get the best food, and who to visit for a great haircut in this bustling bazaar that's been in the same spot for over 70 years.
6. Fort Delaware
Another classic field trip destination is this haunted Fort on Pea Patch Island. Delawareans can tell you spooky stories about the sounds of cannons in the halls, or maybe just recant a great picnic memory on a less haunted visit. Every Delawarean has a memory from Fort Delaware that's worth sharing.
7. Sambo's Tavern
Sambo's Tavern is the Delaware destination for picking crabs and drinking cold beer with a river view. While lots of Kent County kids celebrate their 21st birthday at Sambo's, this tavern is a favorite of most Delawareans who love fresh seafood.
8. New Castle County Farmers Market
New Castle County is a lot like Spence's Bazaar in that regulars know the best places to grab donuts, food, or meet up with friends for some bargain shopping.
9. Dewey Beach's Bar Scene
Each Delawarean has their favorite Dewey Beach bar for summer shenanigans. Some people love the open atmosphere of the Rusty Rudder, others prefer sharing Wipeout Buckets with their friends at Nalu. Either way, any true Delawarean can direct you to a great bar for your taste in Delaware's party town.
10. Wilmington Riverfront
Wilmington's Riverfront is one of the most happening places in New Castle County. While the city gets a bad reputation, those who are familiar with Trolley, Rodney and the Riverfront can tell you all about the amazing restaurants, the convenience of the Water Taxi, and the best places to take an afternoon stroll.
11. Cape Henlopen State Park
Cape Henlopen is one of Delaware's busiest state parks, and Delawareans flock here for the beaches, the Fire Control towers, and the historic site at Fort Miles. It's a great campground, too, and many Delawareans can tell you all about the coolest places to check out when you visit the park.
