Delaware is an old state, and any state with lots of history tends to be home to lots of paranormal activity, as well. One little town right on the water is home to several haunted buildings, and it’s rumored to be one of the most haunted towns in the world! Next time you’re strolling the streets of Delaware City, think about those that may be walking by your side…
Delaware City was established in the early 1800s as an important waterfront town along the Delaware. Plenty of the buildings there today were built between 1826 and 1930.
With such a long history, it's easy to reason that plenty of spirits have never quite left the town. Read below to find out about some of the most haunted spots in town, and be prepared for a visit to Delaware's most haunted town.
Anyone who grew up in Delaware City might remember Pachette's Playhouse, which is now one of the most haunted spots around.
The Playhouse has been abandoned since the early 1990s, but people still regularly visit to indulge their paranormal curiosities. Those who dare to visit have reported seeing painting coming to live, forces pushing them around, mirrors bleeding, and figures in the upstairs window. At night, look for a purple light moving from room to room. You won't find me here!
The Central Hotel is rumored to be so haunted that when the City sold it, they auctioned it off on Halloween!
Unexplained figures floating through the halls, orbs in photos, loud sounds, and chilling feelings are just some of what led paranormal investigators to explore this historic hotel. The findings have led multiple teams of investigators to the same conclusion — some vacationers never left this once-luxury hotel.
Of course, Fort Delaware is the "big story" when it comes to Delaware City hauntings.
Though it's located just off the mainland on Pea Patch Island, this incredible, historic Fort brings ghost hunters to Delaware City year-round. It's considered one of the most haunted places in the world — and once you learn about the history of this former Confederate prison, you'll completely understand why many spirits have never found their peace after dying at Fort Delaware.

Fort DuPont is the lesser-known counterpart to Fort Delaware, but it's got a creepy history of its own!
Unexplained orbs in photos, loud noises, and chilling feelings are just some of what you'll experience when you visit Fort DuPont at just the right (or wrong?) time.
If all this ghost hunting has made you hungry, you can dine at Delaware's most haunted restaurant — Crabby Dick's, right on the water.
The owners of this restaurant, located in the old Delaware City Hotel, make no attempts to hide the fact that their dining room is frequently visited by ghosts! You can read all about the
unexplained noises and sights right here .
