One big part of summer for anyone who lives in Delaware is indulging on salt water taffy and fudge in the shore towns. We wanted to know – is there anything out there that measures up to Dolles and Ibach’s in Rehoboth? So, we did some digging, and are excited to present to you these 10 famous (and delicious) Delaware candy shops.
1. Candy for All Occasions
Are you looking for a unique, old-fashioned candy gift? Stop by this shop in Wilmington, which specializes in hard to find, novelty candies. It's the best place to track down your favorite candy from when you were a kid - like those flying saucers, licorice wheels, and more.
2. Ibach's By The Sea
If you grew up going to Rehoboth, chances are you've had caramel corn and truffles from Ibach's! They're a landmark of the beach town and they're famous for nearly everything they make on site. Their chocolates are second to none!
3. Byler's
Byler's, in Harrington, isn't solely a candy store - they carry all sorts of grocery and gift products. They make our list, though, because they stock over 200 varieties of candies! No matter what you're looking for, you'll find it here. It's a great place to bring the kids and spend time shopping with friends, plus you'll get to go home with a few sweets that you're sure to love.
4. North East Chocolate
Okay, so technically North East isn't exactly Delaware... but we'll let it slide, because it's so close by. This quaint store matches perfectly with the rest of North East. Chances are you'll run into plenty of other people from Delaware stopping by to pick up some of the famous salted caramels - they're out of this world! You can also pick up candy dog treats for your canine best friend here - they are so well made that you'll need to be careful you don't eat them yourself!
5. Candy Connections
Candy Connections is the place to call if you're planning a wedding, birthday party, or other event and need to blow your guests away with a perfect candy buffet. Located in Middletown, it's worth checking out even if you aren't looking to wow any party guests with beautiful and delicious arrangements.
6. Candy Kitchen
The first Candy Kitchen opened in 1937 and the family-owned stores have been a hallmark of Delaware beach towns ever since. There are Candy Kitchens in Fenwick Island, Bethany Beach (2), and Rehoboth Beach (4). They might have the best salt-water taffy we've ever had - try the root beer flavor!
7. Dolles Salt Water Taffy
Chances are, you've seen the bright orange Dolles Salt Water Taffy sign any time you've been to Rehoboth Beach. They make the absolute best Caramel Corn in the state! Their salt water taffy, fudge, brittles and chocolates are among the tastiest treats you can find anywhere. They've been making their own products on site since 1927 - when something has been around for that long, you know it's good.
8. Govatos
Not all of the candy is hiding by the beaches - this old fashioned chocolate shop in Wilmington is famous for their almond bark and butter creams. Since 1894, the Govatos family has been perfecting the art of the perfect chocolate shop, and we think they've nailed it. Their products are so good that they were named one of the top 50 candy shops in the country by Food Network.
9. Snyder's Candy
Is Rehoboth Beach the candy capital of the world? Add Snyder's to your list. They've got great salt water taffy (over 60 flavors!) and delicious fudge, but we love to stop by to check out their gummies. They've got a gummy bar with over 40 different varieties!
10. Seaside Country Store
While Seaside isn't specifically a candy store (they carry all sorts of unusual and unique gifts), their fudge makes them worthy of a mention on this list. Try the vanilla - it's our favorite. Seaside is a great place to find old fashioned candy, too.
What’s your favorite of these Delaware candy shops? And what’s your favorite old fashioned candy? Wax lips, Razzles, or maybe pinwheel licorice?
