There’s a new food festival coming to Delaware this June, and I for one am more excited than anyone! Have you heard about the New Castle Colonial BBQ Competition? It started up last year, but this year it has completely blown up, and over 50 competitors are showing up to strut their stuff. I know where I’m going to be on June 10th!

Is there anything in the world better than smoked, fall-off-the-bone ribs?

I don't think so... except, maybe perfectly smoked chicken. Whatever your BBQ preference is, you'll find it at Battery Park in New Castle on June 10th, 2017.
Local BBQ joints are joining over 50 vendors from around the country to see who's the top hog.

If you stop in to one of the local competitors, you might get a sneak peek at what they're testing out! At the festival itself, samples will be offered for $1 to the public. General admission is just $5, or $10 for a family admission, and the any revenue the event brings in beyond costs is donated to New Castle area charities. It's the perfect chance to try so much pulled pork that you start to oink... and then not feel that bad about it.
We can't think of a better backdrop for this competition than historic Battery Park.

Old New Castle is a delightful spot, and hosting a Delaware BBQ festival here just makes sense. You're surrounded by the history that makes the First State great, and right on the bay that has been so significant to the state, as well. Enjoy the park on a hopefully beautiful day while you sample what everyone has to offer.
In the end, the trophies will go home to the most deserving smokers.

Will it be one of the Delaware groups, or someone from North Carolina? Maybe New Jersey will take top honors this year. I'm sure it will come down to the wire, because every team that's competing makes amazing, world-class BBQ.

Gates open at noon, and the judging is conducted by official, trained Kansas City BBQ Society judges. In short, that means this event is a big deal on the competition BBQ circuit.

I know for sure that I’ll be getting my tickets soon! Hopefully, by June, I’ll be fully recovered from how much food I’ll be eating at the Dewey-Rehoboth Bacon Festival that’s only TWO WEEKS away.
