Every year, I check the paper and online listings to try and find the best fireworks near me for Fourth of July. Luckily, it’s not hard to find a spectacular display in Delaware! Last year, we tracked down some amazing Independence Day celebrations and helped our readers have a wonderful holiday. This year, we’re doing the same. Check back often for more details as events are announced!
1. Dover: July 4th, 2017

Starting at 9 AM on the 4th of July, Dover lights up with patriotic activites! From the Historic Dover Scavenger Hunt at the First State Heritage Park Welcome Center, to guided tours through historic buildings on the Green, you'll find yourself taking a step back in time. The John Bell House on the Green hosts 18th century colonial games for children and adults. The National Bell Ringing Ceremony at the Old State House is at 2 PM sharp to celebrate the birth of our nation.
Head to the Legislative Mall for children's activities, food trucks, and craft vendors. At 6 PM, catch the old fashioned 4th of July Parade! Live music and a C-17 flyover will wrap up the evening as everyone gets ready for Fireworks, which go off at dusk (just about 9:20 PM). This year, the Dover Fireworks will be set to the soundtrack of the Broadway hit show, "Hamilton." Find the full schedule here.
The Bethany Beach parade is the highlight of the town's Independence Day celebration. It starts off at noon, so register your float between 9-11:30. Don't forget about the horseshoe throwing contest and awards ceremony at the southwest corner of the Christian Church. Fireworks go off at dusk to cap off an exciting day in this quiet beach town. More information on the parade and events can be found here.
Grab a spot on the beach well before the fireworks go off at 9:15 PM for the best chance to view these spectacular fireworks. The Zambelli Fireworks Internationale is launched right from the beach south of Rehoboth Ave) and visible for blocks and blocks in every direction. Keep an eye on for updated information and road closure alerts.
4. Cape May-Lewes Ferry Fireworks Cruise: July 2nd and July 3rd, 2017
For a truly unique experience, get yourself a ticket for the Cape May - Lewes Ferry on July 4th. The Fireworks Cruise runs from 5-11 p.m. and you will have the best views of fireworks going off in Rehoboth Beach and Cape May. For $30 per person - or $15 for children under 12 - enjoy entertainment on board all night as you celebrate Independence Day. Find more information about the July 2nd Cruise and the July 3rdd Cruise.
Newark's festivities bring out nearly 20,000 people every year! Amazing food and entertainment mean you'll have a blast with your friends and family long before the fireworks even go off. The celebrations are located at the University of Delaware Athletic Complex. Enjoy the craft booths and kids' games, as well as live music (starting at 6:00 pm). Fireworks will go off once the sun goes down!
