For more than 200 years, the Columbus Inn has been a part of Delaware’s dining history. When it was built in 1798, it was Wilmington’s best bakery. In 1812, it became a tavern, and it was a place for Americans to get away from the weariness of war. By 1849, it was known as the Columbus Inn, and it was a tollgate stop for the City of Wilmington. Notable visitors included Buffalo Bill and Annie Oakley. Throughout the years, it became a local dive bar, kept alive by its history and loyal patrons. In the 1950s, famous golfer Wally Senza bough the Columbus Inn, and turned it into a more elegant restaurant. The restaurant has changed hands over the years, and even closed for a brief period of time in the 2000s, but today it is back and better than ever!
