Do you remember when you would come home with a good report card, and go out with your family to celebrate? Maybe your grandparents would spoil you after a weekend with them and treat you to a big ice cream sundae. If you grew up in northern Delaware, chances are you’ve had many meals like that at the Charcoal Pit, Wilmington’s famous vintage diner that serves up nearly the same exact menu they did when they opened in 1956.
Delawareans grew up dining at the Charcoal Pit on Concord Pike, in Wilmington.
The Original Charcoal Pit is located at 2600 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803
This soda-foundtain style restaurant keeps its old school style, with vintage photos on the wall and a menu that hasn't changed much since it opened in 1956.
If you've got a sweet tooth, nothing goes better with a burger and fries than a handspun milkshake! Are you the type to dip your fries in your chocolate shake?
Be sure to save room for dessert! Their enormous sundaes are famous throughout the state, and if you've got a crowd, you'll want to order the gigantic "Kitchen Sink!"
This sundae contains 20 scoops of vanilla, chocolate and strawberry ice cream, banana
spears, chocolate syrup, crushed pineapple, cherries, and wet walnuts, and it is loaded with whipped cream! Do you think you could make a dent?
What’s your favorite memory from the Charcoal Pit? Have you been in recent years? Tell us in the comments!
