Sushi is one of those foods where you want to make sure you’re choosing a really reputable restaurant to visit. Luckily, Delaware has several stand-out options if you’re looking to chow down on a California roll or savor some uni. My favorite part about going out for sushi is the ritual of cleansing my hands with a hot towel, admiring my food as if it was a work of art, and then remembering how to use chopsticks. Choosing a restaurant that serves raw fish isn’t something to leave up to chance – so here are the Delaware restaurants that serve the best of this cuisine.
1. Stingray Sushi Bar + Asian Latino Grill (Rehoboth Beach)
You might be scratching your head wondering what an Asian Latino Grill is. The answer? EVERYTHING GREAT! Grab a California Dream and the sake sampler while you unwind in a trendy but welcoming atmosphere. Make sure to save room for dessert! I'm sure you'll want to try the avocado cheesecake.
This trendy spot is serving up classic rolls you would expect, like the California roll or the Hairy Mexican. Mikimotos is consistently delicious and fresh. If you have a sweet tooth, try the cheesecake egg rolls.
Expect great service and a welcoming environment at this Wilmington restaurant located along Rt. 202. Favorites include the Bird Nest (salmon, yellowtail, tuna, white tuna, Japanese caviar and avocado) and Spicy Dancing Kani (Crab meat, avocado, tempura flakes, spicy sauce). Yum!
Takumi puts a lot of creativity into their sushi. Try the orange blossom roll, which contains spicy tuna, crab stick, avocado, cruchy caviar, eel sauce, spicy mayo and salmon. Adventurous youngsters get free miso soup.
Go with a group and get the giant boat full of sushi (they'll choose the selection for you). If you're going solo, sit at the bar and watch the action–it's a mesmerising and entertaining way to spend a meal.
Located in a strip mall in Newark, this Asian Fusion restaurant is unassuming. If you're with a group of people who aren't all sushi-eaters, this is a solid option. Their cooked meals, like the mango chicken, are exotic and sweet, but also safe choices. Try the crunchy spicy yellowtail or the Ninja Turtle roll if you're feeling feisty.
If you're not careful, you might drive right past this restaurant, which is located near the Elsmere Fire Company. Stop in for lunch to grab a bento box. The portions are consistently generous and if you're into spicy foods, the double spicy roll has some kick!
My personal favorite is the crispy calamari spicy tuna roll. The crunch and the spice make for a fun take on the traditional spicy tuna. The firecracker roll is full of crawfish, mayo, and tobiko, and topped with jalapeño peppers, bonito & nori flakes. My mouth is watering.
10. Cultured Pearl Restaurant & Sushi Bar (Rehoboth Beach)
The food is great, but the atmosphere is what really sells this Rehoboth Beach restaurant. Dine on the roof alongside a HUGE koi pond! Grab a date and order the sushi combo for two.
Sushi Sumo is great for groups, with private rooms available for reservation. The sushi bar is consistently creative and fresh. One of their special rolls is called the "Sexy Eric" roll. Once you stop giggling, give this roll a try. It contains tuna, cream cheese and avocado.
I don’t know about you, but I’m in the mood for a firecracker roll and some cheesecake egg rolls. Where is your favorite place to grab sushi in Delaware?
