Whether you call it a sub or a hoagie depends on where you grew up in Delaware. If you’re from northern New Castle county, you probably call it a hoagie. If you’re from anywhere else, it’s a sub. It’s pretty straightforward, but it still causes some tension between people who feel strongly about their sandwich naming tradition. I’m not going to reveal my sandwich-name preferences, but I will tell you where you can find the best sub shops in Delaware, order an Italian whatever , and enjoy an amazing sandwich.
1. Gaudiello's, Wilmington
Gaudiellos in Wilmington reminds me of the italian hoagie shops that you find on every corner in South Philly! This little mom and pop joint in Trolley Square makes unbelievable hoagies with fresh, cut-to-order meat and fresh toppings. Give them a try next time you're upstate. 29A Trolley Sq, Wilmington, DE 19806

Malin's is my go-to stop when I'm traveling through Newark. It's right off the highway and they make the most delicious subs in Delaware! 7. Casapulla's, Rehoboth Beach
Casapulla's is located near the Rehoboth Beach outlets and it's the perfect place to stop after a full morning of shopping.
