Sometimes, I feel bad for pancakes. Why do waffles get to have all of the fun with fried chicken? How come stuffed French Toast took off, bringing all the usual fruity pancake toppings along for the ride? When it comes down to it, though, is there any better breakfast staple than a simple pancake? Whether you like blueberry pancakes, banana pancakes, or just a simple buttermilk pancake, you can’t deny that these fluffy flapjacks are an iconic breakfast food. In the interest of being fair to breakfasts around the state, we decided to take a look at restaurants that made the best pancakes in Delaware.
Drip Cafe is one of Delaware's best kept secrets. Not only did this small strip-mall coffee shop make our list for Best Burger in Delaware, but their creative pancakes top the list for Best Pancakes in Delaware, too! You absolutely must try their Gingered Peaches and Cream pancakes.
If you grew up in Wilmington, chances are you grew up going to Angelo's on the corner of Scott and Gilpin in Forty Acres. This neighborhood staple has been serving up amazing breakfast for decades, and owner/cook Muzz makes some of the best pancakes I've ever had.
The Royal Treat is a well-known ice cream shop in Rehoboth Beach, but what you really need to visit for is their breakfast! Not only is everything a great value, but it's all delicious. I've never been disappointed by the light and fluffy pancakes that I order every time I indulge.
One Coastal is one of the top Breakfast destinations in Southern Delaware, so it shouldn't be a surprise that they made our "Best Pancakes in Delaware" list! Top them with fresh fruit for a great treat next time you're at the beach.
Nectar Cafe in Lewes is a quaint little juice bar that serves up some of the best pancakes in Delaware. My absolute favorite are their Blueberry Pancakes. Pair them with Blueberry Syrup for a treat that's just sweet enough for a great breakfast or lunch.
Is there anything that the Backyard doesn't do well? Their GIANT fluffy buttermilk pancakes are always so tasty. I will admit, though, my favorite part of visiting the Backyard for breakfast is their insane assortment of pastries that pair so well with a short stack of flapjacks.
Kaisy's Delights is one of the most unique restaurants in Delaware~ They specialize in Kaiserschmarnn, which is Austria's version of a pancake. Kaisey's is set up in the coolest way, and you can choose your toppings to make a cup of the best Kaiserschmarnn you'll ever have.
Can I get away with choosing the Delmar Diner, even if it's technically a few steps over the state line? I guess we'll see. Regardless of whether this place "counts" or not, it really does serve up some the best pancakes I've ever eaten in... Delaware?
The BnL is a breakfast staple in downtown Dover, not far off of State Street. Their pancakes are thick and fluffy and remind me of old fashioned, made from scratch pancakes from my childhood. Dust them with some powdered sugar, load 'em up with butter, and pour on the syrup - there's no better way to start the day!
Chef Willie can whip up some mean buttermilk pancakes from scratch! They're the size of the plate they are served on, but I never seem to tire of the light and fluffy flapjacks.
34 S Main St, Smyrna, DE
So, there you have it – the best pancakes in the state of Delaware. Now, what could possibly pair with these fluffy breakfast treats? Hmm… maybe I’ll have to check out some of the best Bloody Marys in Delaware and get back to you about that.
