Are you excited for the State Fair, coming up in a week? I am! There’s nothing I love more than flashing neon lights and the smell of funnel cake in the air! We all love the Delaware State Fair, but did you also know that Delaware has some of the best festivals in the country, year round? From Apple Scrapple to the Wildflower Celebration, Delaware offers something for everyone. Take a look at what you can still catch this year, and what you need to keep an eye out for next year, and round out your calendar with the best festivals in Delaware.
1. Delaware State Fair, July 21-30, Harrington
The Delaware State Fair is everything a state fair should be - funnel cake, ferris wheels and carnival games. The bright neon lights will make you feel like a kid again, as you try to win the games or get dizzy on the thrill rides. It's one of the best state fairs in the United States, and nearly everybody in Delaware attends for at least one day each year.
2. Apple Scrapple Festival, October 14-15, Bridgeville
If you want to enjoy a Delaware food festival, Apple Scrapple is your destination. With apple, scrapple and everything in between, this festival is one for your taste buds. Creative takes on all things apple and scrapple are the features, but there are many other vendors and food trucks. Grab a crabcake, an order of wings, or a delicious funnel cake while you enjoy hundreds of vendors that come in to Bridgeville for the event.
3. Delaware Wine and Beer Festival, October 15, Harrington

4. Sea Witch Festival, Rehoboth Beach, October 28-30
The Sea Witch Festival in Rehoboth Beach is always held Halloween weekend. It's the best place to celebrate Halloween - you can particpate in costume contests and the famous Sea Witch Hunt - a scavenger hunt where you and a team explore all of Rehoboth Beach to find items based on clues. 5. Punkin Chunkin, Novmeber 4-6, Bridgeville
PUNKIN CHUNKIN IS BACK IN DELAWARE! Don't miss it. After a few years away due to insurance concerns, the World Championship Punkin Chunkin will be returning to Sussex county. If you've never been to a Punkin Chunkin, it's a giant festival where people build massive cannons, trebuchets, catapults and more to see who can launch a pumpkin farthest. Don't try to understand it - just go.
6. Mt. Cuba Center Wildflower Celebration, April, Hockessin
Mt. Cuba Center's wildflower celebration in April is one of the most amazing things in Delaware, period. Stunning flowers and unbelievably kept gardens are yours to explore during this multi-day celebration. Dates and information are available early next year

7. Winterthur Point to Point, Winterthur Mansion, May, Wilmington
Delaware's own Derby Day! The Winterthur Point-to-Point is an amazing event held at the Winterthur Mansion every May. Dress up in your fanciest and try to join one of the tailgates if you can't secure your own. Wine and cheese are the food of choice here - save the funnel cakes for the state fair. 8. Dover Days, May, Dover
Celebrate the history of Delaware's capitol during the Dover Days festival in early May. Historical reenactments accompany live music, entertainment, and amazing food. It's a great way to learn about Delaware's history and explore the beautiful city of Dover, while also enjoying the traditional festival atmosphere.
9. Firefly Festival, June, Dover
Firefly is a relatively new music festival in Delaware, but it has quickly grown to be one of the best festivals in the United States. With huge headlining acts such as the Killers, Modest Mouse, Silversun Pickups, RHCP, Tom Petty and more, this really is the East Coast's best music festival.
