Summer is winding down, and that means that Delaware is getting ready for food festival season! For the next three months, our state is completely taken over with the best culinary festivals in the Mid Atlantic. There’s the Burger Battle , Cheesetoberfest , Apple Scrapple, and of course… the BBQ Brawl in the Fall.
Every year, the Haass Family Butcher Shop (along with dozens of volunteers and employees) hosts the BBQ Brawl In The Fall.
This year, the BBQ Festival and Lobster Boil take place on September 14 - 15, 2018 . Read below to find out more about this two-day food festival.
You can find this incredible culinary festival right in Dover.
The BBQ Brawl in the Fall is held at the Haass Field, at 3997 Hazlettville Rd., Dover, DE 19904
The weekend kicks off with the Haass Lobster Boil.
The Lobster Boil is a ticketed event, and you'll have to buy a ticket in advance,
here .
The kickoff party food is outstanding! You'll get so much more than just lobster.
Along with your clawed crustacean, enjoy shrimp, crawdads, clams, a drumstick, corn, potatoes, hot sausage, some mixed veggies, drinks, and of course pretzel salad for dessert. Once everyone has their plate, the rest of the food is up for grabs for seconds, too!
There's more than just a plate full of delicious seafood, though.
After you stuff your face, you'll get to dance the night away as the Jimmy Cochran Band plays your favorite tunes.
On Saturday, the BBQ Brawl begins. This serious BBQ competition pits 30+ smoke masters against each other in a battle for trophies and prizes.
It's free and open to the public! In addition to delicious food, you'll find plenty of live entertainment and family-friendly activities.
The pitmasters and bbq wizards come from all over the region, and there are plenty of Delaware crews representing the First State.
Each team carefully prepares their meats with dry rubs, seasonings, sauces and hours on flavored, smokey logs.
The result is to die for: fall-off-the-bone ribs smothered in homemade sauces that have been perfected over the years.
You'll also find delicious pulled pork and brisket, of course! No BBQ competition would be complete without these classics.
Chicken thighs, drumsticks, smoked wings and more will be on display from teams hoping to take home the prize for best chicken.
At the end of the day, the winners are announced, and teams take home their prizes and recognize their rankings.
Let's be real, though - the real winner at a giant BBQ competition like the Haas BBQ Brawl is the spectator, who gets to try everything they could possibly want and then leave with a full stomach and a big smile.
