Wilmington’s signature botanical garden, Winterthur, is one of the best fall destinations in Delaware – if you love nature, that is! Take a peaceful walk through one thousand acres of pristine beauty, designed and preserved by H.F. DuPont, and get to see glimpses of Delaware’s history at the same time.
Everyone knows that Winterthur is beautiful in the springtime, but it isn't until fall that the true beauty of these grounds is brought to light.
Throughout October and November, dozens of autumnal trees, shrubs, and plants come to life! There's nothing quite like seeing a Japanese Maple in full bloonm.
The autumn cherry blossoms often surprise visitors, who tend to think of early spring when they see these flowers. There's always a surprise around the corner here!
Each section of the 1,000 acre Winterthur garden comes alive with new blooms in autumn. The Winterhazel Walk is home to Korean Rhododendron and its namesake Winterthazel, the March Bank's Linden Viburnum are on display, and everywhere you look, foliage is turning.
Stroll through the Enchanted Woods and let White Wood Aster, Beauty Berry, Witchhazel and Toad-lily guide you through the Tulip Treehouse and Fairy Cottage.
There's no better way to spend a day than wandering through Winterthur in autumn! It's sure to become one of your favorite fall destinations in Delaware.
