Most people flock to Delaware in the heart of the Summer, when Rehoboth, Dewey and Bethany Beach are at capacity, parking spots are rare, and sunburns are common. However, Delaware isn’t just a state to catch a tan! There are so many festivals, fairs and celebrations happening throughout the state at any given time. As summer comes to an end, there are still plenty of reasons to visit the First State. These end of summer festivals in Delaware will make sure you keep having a great time as the busy season winds down and the school year kicks into full gear.
This Camden-Wyoming orchard has been serving the people of Delaware for generations, and every year, they host their own Peach Ice Cream Day. The entire day is dedicated to Fifer's loyal customers, and they can enjoy entertainment, games, and all sorts of sweet treats alongside their complimentary cone.
2. Middletown's Olde Tyme Peach Festival, August 18.
Georgia may be the Peach State, but Delaware comes close! Peach Pie is our official dessert and our soils helped perfect peach farming in America. The Olde Tyme Peach Festival in Middletown shows off our fruity heritage in the best way possible.
Bring your appetite to the Delaware Burger Battle, because this is the most delicious summer festival in Delaware! All proceeds go to charity, so you can feel less guilty about shoving down a burger from Redfire Grill after you've tried one from Delaware Park, Odyssey, Cantwell's Tavern, or the food trucks.
The Arden Fair is another place where you may feel out of your element, but embrace it! This old fashioned town hosts an old fashioned fair, and there's nothing quite like it anywhere else. Enjoy the entertainment, artists, performers and vendors at this quirky little fair.
The Nanticoke Indian Tribe hosts a pow-wow every September, and it's truly one of the best festivals in Delaware. Learn about Native American traditions, music, and history as you step into a whole new world.
Downtown Milford works hard all year to create a town that visitors fall in love with. Their riverwalk is the best in the state, and it really struts its stuff during the Freedom Festival. Head over to this small town for food, shopping, entertainment, and beautiful scenery.
Party it up in historic Odessa! The Historic Odessa Foundation hosts an annual Brewfest to showcase local breweries, distilleries and restaurants, as well as artisans and entertainers! This is a fun and rowdy festival that's sure to delight even the pickiest beer fan.
8. Haass Butcher Shop's BBQ Brawl, September 14-15.
The Haass Family Butcher Shop is a Delaware landmark, and they've taken to hosting other BBQ fanatics every year for their BBQ Brawl and Lobster Boil. Attend the preview night and boil, or just show up for the BBQ Brawl and feast on ribs, brisket and pork - whatever your stomach can handle! This is my favorite way to wrap up summer.
Delaware is full of fun summer festivals, and this is just the tip of the iceberg. If you want to stay on top of events, festivals, fairs. and celebrations in the First State, sign up for our newsletter here and get the best of Delaware to your inbox daily.
