There’s An Alpaca Farm In Delaware And You’re Going To Love It

The farm is open to visitors one Saturday each month. During the spring and summer, you can visit the farm on April 14, May 12, June 9, July 7, and August 4. You can also call and make an appointment to visit, tour the farm, and meet with their resident alpacas!

These fluffy camelids originated in South America. Yes, they're similar to Llamas, but they're smaller, only weighing between 100-200 pounds. Alpacas also tend to be kinder - they don't spit at humans - and very playful! They were domesticated and have been raised for their soft coats, sheared once each spring, for centuries.

Fun fact, some alpacas are used as "guard dogs" for flocks of sheep. They tend to be protective against dogs, wolves and coyotes.

TaCaCo Alpacas was started by Blair and Kelley Boyce due to their love of these Peruvian creatures. The name of the farm was derived from the names of their three grandchildren -Tatum, Caleb, and Colbie!

Blair and Kelley truly love their herd, and will be glad to tell you a little bit about each Alpaca. TaCaCo's Trump-ette was born right after the election day, and like her namesake, she has a big mop of messy hair on her head. Morning Star's Gracie is an affectionate little alpaca, and she looks just like her mother, Mabeline. Alpacaville's Willis is a young stud, and his playful personality makes him a farm favorite. Morning Star Sapphire is super food motivated. It doesn't matter what you have, she'll come running to investigate and chow down!

They have many more alpacas in their herd, and getting to know each one is part of what makes a visit to their farm so memorable.

Each child who attends will love getting up close and personal with these friendly alpacas. They can pet them, feed them, and learn all about what it takes to raise an alpaca. Along with pizza and drinks, kids are served homemade alpaca-shaped cupcakes and cookies! The barn will be decorated, the kids get to play piñata, and there are crafts and games for everyone. Perhaps most special, though, is the birthday gift give to the party's host! The Birthday child gets to take home their own "Rudi Paca", an alpaca stuffed animal wearing his own alpaca yarn hat.

While they no longer have a gift shop at their Laurel farm, Blair and Kelley keep Alpaca inventory at their Rehoboth Beach shop! Until the end of April, the store is open Friday through Monday. In May and June, they're open Thursdays through Mondays. In July and August, you can stop by daily! The store opens at 11 AM on weekdays, and 12 PM on weekends.

The gift store includes plenty of unique items, including Peruvian Pima cotton clothing, jewelry, and even gourmet foods from Stonewall Kitchen.
