This massive aircraft was christened the "Flying Fortress" and was a legendary plane during World War II. This tough-as-nails plane was as used during campaigns against the Axis powers in both Europe and the Pacific. In the photo above, you can see the Sperry ball turret from "Sleepy Time Gal," a flying fortress that was part of the 381st Bomb Group.

The AMC’s Open Cockpit Days are the best time to tour, and there are three left for the year! Join the Museum’s tour guides on August 18th, September 15th, October 20th from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. (weather permitting) to learn about the most fascinating planes to ever take flight. Guides will be waiting for you in open aircraft and will tell you their stories. Many of the tour guides are retired crew, so you’ll get a truly personalized experience when you hear their tales. Point your GPS to 1301 Heritage Rd., Dover AFB, DE 19902 and look out for the brown signs that point the way to the Museum’s gated entrance.
