1. M Street NW
M Street is the main drag of Georgetown and it’s a favorite among tourists and locals. You can find plenty of restaurants, shops and gorgeous Georgetown homes here. Just watch out because it’s almost always crowded.
2. U Street
U Street is known for its iconic bar scene but there’s always something going on here. There are plenty of unique thrift shops, beautiful murals that are a tribute to the neighborhood’s African American culture and, lots of restaurants and bars
3. H Street NE
Many people say that H Street is having its coming of age moment. There is a fantastic community atmosphere here, tons of local businesses, nightlife spots, and a weekly farmers market in the summer.
4. Connecticut Avenue NW
This part of Connecticut Avenue is in the bustling Dupont Circle area, where the streets are lined with boutiques, cafes, and bars.
5. Pennsylvania Avenue
While not as bustling as the other streets on our list, we couldn’t forget Pennsylvania Avenue, also know as "America’s Main Street." It’s the location of all of the official city parades and many of the protests. Amid the notable historic buildings, you’ll enjoy great restaurants and souvenir shops.
6. Massachusetts Avenue
Massachusetts cuts across the district but from 18th Street to 35th Street, it is known as "Embassy Row." This street is home to various embassies and diplomatic missions. Take a relaxing stroll and enjoy the gorgeous mansions along the route.
7. Swann Street NW
Swann Street is truly one of the most gorgeous streets in the country. It’s lined with beautiful, colorful row houses and in the spring, you’ll find an array of flowers on every lawn. It’s also not far from Dupont Circle, so you can still walk to many restaurants and shops.
8. 18th Street NW
The intersection of Columbia Road and 18th Street is known as a major part of the Adams Morgan neighborhood. It’s a strip a mile long of fun bars, restaurants and shops that are frequently busy on the weekends.
9. Barracks Row SE
A historic street in the Capitol Hill neighborhood, Barracks Row has over 30 restaurants, retailers and boutiques. It’s composed of five blocks of 8th Street that stretch south from Pennsylvania Avenue to the Navy Yard.
10. CityCenter (between H Street NW and New York Avenue between 9th and 11th)
CityCenter is technically a neighborhood and not quite a street but it’s worth mentioning on the list. It’s a gorgeous space lined with storefronts, with open park space and amazing luxury shopping and local cafes.
11. Water Street SE
Water Street is located in the newly redeveloped the Yards Park. It’s home to some of the fastest growing restaurants and is perfect for a summer evening along the water.
