DC is known for its really cool and diverse neighborhoods. Each one is has its own something special to offer residents and tourists. There’s one DC neighborhood that celebrates its uniqueness and diversity every year during their one of a kind festival. The 17th Street Festival celebrates 17th Street and is one of the most unique festivals in all of DC.
The 17th Street Festival is a free, one day long celebration that happens every August or September, all along 17th Street, of course!
The idea was born from a neighborhood renovation project that improved the sidewalks, bike lanes and parks in and around 17th Street.
The goal is to celebrate the corridor, its businesses and its residents and it never disappoints.
There is fun for all ages at the 17th Street Festival including a fun kids zone where children can play on the moon bounce, participate in games and get their face painted.
There is an entire pet area where anyone can bring together their pups or other pets. You can also shop or adopt a pet in the pet zone from one of the local shelters or shops.
And of course, the entertainment. There’s over 50 artists including marching bands, dance performances and singers.
There’s also a one of a kind drag queens show every year that you might not want to miss!
For food and drink, the local restaurants and pubs are open. If you would like to purchase a pass for $10, you can enjoy discounts at surrounding participating restaurants and taverns.
The 17th Street Festival is truly one of a kind and it is one of the best ways to get to know a fun and interesting part of DC!
This year the 17th Street Festival will take place on August 26th from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Parking can be tricky, especially around the festival itself but it’s within walking distance to the 17th Street metro.
You can learn about the 17th Street Festival on their website.
