Delightfully odd, wonderfully weird and charmingly wacky, we can guarantee that you have never been to a place quite like the Mansion on O and the O Street Museum Street in Washington DC. Unlike so many of the museums in DC where exhibits lay behind glass or behind velvet ropes, at the Mansion at O Street and the O Street Museums, guests are invited to touch, try and experience the creative process. Whether you choose to stay at the hotel, book a private event, or take on one of the many tours, you will love this unique attraction in Washington DC.
From the outside, the Mansion on O looks like any other Dupont Circle row house but it is actually a series of five interconnected town houses that have over 100 rooms and over 70 secret doors.
Every room in the property is of varying architectural, artistic and design styles with everything from art deco and avant garde decor to a log cabin room.
The mansion is full of artifacts and treasures of every type, size and shape. Many of these treasures are for sale. Some were donated by former owners who guests. Some were found at garage sales. Visitors are encouraged to pick up, play with and experience the artifacts and treasures that are all over the house.
The mansion has treasures such as a wide collection of Beatles and John memorabilia, a signed copy of the Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King script and a piece of the shower curtain from the Psycho shower scene, signed by Janet Leigh herself.
The Mansion on O Street is also a hotel so not all rooms are open to the public but you can choose to stay in one of the rooms. We recommend the log cabin room because when else can you stay in a log cabin in the middle of DC?
With so many room and so many treasures inside, the mansion feels a little bit like a maze but that is part of its charm. There are hidden passages behind book cases and mirrors, rooms that lead to hidden rooms and tons of secrets all over for you to explore and discover. Like this wine cellar which is behind a secret door.
You can choose to explore the mansion on a self guided tour. Or you can grab a group of friends and take part in one of their incredible scavenger hunts. However you choose to explore the mansion, make sure you really explore. Give yourself a few hours, touch the exhibits, play a game of pool and experience the creativity that lives here.
If you are in love with the mansion, you can even host a private event or party here. The mansion can be rented out for private events, like holiday parties, corporate retreats, and weddings.
They have book readings, live music and you can even catch a drag show there!
The Mansion on O Street is dedicated to the creative process. The collections rotate and no visit is ever the same. It is an amazing, creative and immersive experience that is unlike any other in the world! And where else could you find a bath tub like this one?
