1. Seneca Creek Greenway Trail
Named after the Seneca Tribe of Iroquois Indians who were indigenous to western New York and Maryland, the Seneca Creek Greenway Trail runs almost 20 miles from Gaithersburg, Maryland to the Potomac River. This peaceful trail has beautiful views of the Potomac and Seneca Creek.
2. Capital Crescent Trail
The Capital Crescent Trail is an 11 mile trail that starts at Georgetown and ends in Silver Spring. The trail is slightly uphill as you travel north and will give you a great workout, whether you choose to run, bike or walk the trail.
3. C&O Canal Towpath
The historic C&O Canal starts in Georgetown and runs 185 mile to Cumberland Maryland. You can follow the transport route that has been used since 1828. The towpath is flat and wide, easy for running and walking and offers amazing views of the Potomac.
4. Potomac Heritage Trail
From Roosevelt Island to Chain Bridge, you can hike five miles of the Potomac Heritage Trails and enjoy scrambling over boulders, beautiful views of the river or waterfalls and you’ll forget you are just minutes from the city.

The Western Ridge trail is 4.3 mile trail in Rock Creek Park. Overlooking Rock Creek, this wooded trail is popular way to escape the hustle and bustle of the city.
6. Glover Archbold Trail
The Glover Archbold Trail is a short cut between Georgetown and Tenleytown and it offers all the nature you could want for a quick escape. Covered by trees and walking along a stream, you may even spot some deer on your route.
