In 1947, a cozy little restaurant and bar opened in Washington’s Capitol Hill district. As many different members of Congress and Senators have come and gone, the Tune Inn is still here and it’s a DC favorite. The Tune Inn reopened after a fire several years ago but it has stayed true to its roots and still feels the same as it did in the 1940s. Step into this timeless restaurant in DC.
The Tune Inn was opened in the 1940s by Joe Nardelli. Today his granddaughter Lisa runs and owns the restaurant. The attitude has stayed the same: everyone is welcome at the Tune Inn.
A laid back place, the Tune Inn features wood paneling, wooden booths and an old jukebox where you can pick the tunes.
The walls are covered with relics of the past. From funny signs to famous photos to flags and, of course, the taxidermied animals on the walls.
The place is filled with character and you won’t want to stop looking around to discover more of the subtle details during your meal.
And speaking of your meal, if you love comfort food, then you will love dining at The Tune Inn. Their menus full of filling meals like the Beer battered hamburger, huge sandwiches and french fries.
Not only is the Tune Inn open for breakfast but they also serve it all day. Enjoy waffles, eggs, pancakes and plenty of bacon anytime of day!
With its close proximity to the Capitol, the Tune Inn is known for its regular visitors of political elite. But they aren’t the only ones who have enjoyed the Tune Inn. The Food Networks’ Diners, Drive Ins and Dives featured The Tune Inn a few years ago. Guy Fieri was a big fan of the restaurant’s satisfying delights.
In 2011, a fire damaged the Tune Inn and they had to close for several months. The interior was restored to almost pristine condition. They even restored the animals on the walls.
If you live in DC or are just stopping by, you absolutely need to visit this low key, fun and timeless restaurant.
