1. Cherry blossoms
Every spring, Washingtonians look forward to the pink and white cherry blossoms popping up over DC. It’s one of the prettiest times of the year and no matter how many time you’ve seen it, the cherry blossoms in DC will always take your breath away.
2. DC flag
Three stars and two bars and you know your home. While DC is not a state and not even technically a city, we have a lot of pride for the district and we all feel it when we see that red and white flag flying high.
3. Craft beer
Washingtonians are best known for having, let’s say, fancier, taste than most. And we keep up that stereotype with our craft beer scene. Anytime you discover a craft brew, you’ll think of the cool little breweries serving their own craft beers all over DC.
4. Row houses
Every neighborhood in DC is so different but row houses are one thing that seem to keep them all together. Brightly colored, charming row houses line the streets of Adams Morgan, Capitol Hill, Columbia Heights, Dupont Circle, Georgetown, H Street Corridor, Glover Park and almost every other neighborhood.
5. Presidents
Sure, we all have different political beliefs in DC but home is where the President lives. It’s also a place that pays tribute to past presidents all over the city. So it’s hard not to think of home when you see Air Force One on TV or a shot of the White House or hear a story about a former president.
6. Museums
No museum will ever live up to the ones we have in DC ever. When you live surrounded by some of the top museums in the world, you’ll remember them the next time you ever stop into a museum anywhere else in the world. And you will probably be annoyed that those museums are not free like the ones in DC.
7. Ethiopian food
Real Washingtonians know that Ethiopian food is the food you definitely have to try while here. DC is actually considered the second largest Ethiopian city in the world and every time we hear the word injera, smell kitfo or tib, we think of home.
8. Murals and street art
For a city that seems stuffy and boring, DC is filled with incredible street art. From graffiti murals are parks to professionally painted murals along Metro station, we have our own fair share of art outside of museums here.
9. Pandas
It’s a bit strange but Washingtonians love their pandas. We even have a Pandacam at the National Zoo to keep an eye on our cuddly and beloved animals.
10. Traffic
While we wish this wasn’t so, it’s the truth. No matter where else you sit in traffic in the world, you will recall that it is not nearly as bad as the traffic you sat in while you lived in DC!
