If you want an up close and personal experience with animals in Washington DC, you are in luck! There is an amazing animal park just outside of the city limits that will give a unique experience with animals that you won’t find anywhere else in the area! Roer’s Zoofari is a unique animal park that is a must-visit for everyone in the DC area!
Roer’s Zoofari is located in Vienna, VA and is about 30 minutes outside of Washington DC. This family owned zoo has over 30 acres where exotic animals live and roam.
There is a wide variety of animals at Roer’s Zoo. You can see sheep, llamas, camels, bison, zebras, alligators and much, much more!
There are three main areas of the park: the barnyard, the aviary and the safari ride. Each area allows you to get up close with the animals.
The barnyard fun is perfect for little ones. You can feed and pet sheep, pigs, llamas and goats. Also, you can bottle feed little lambs and piglets in the barnyard.
Inside the aviary, watch as beautiful birds free fly around you. You can purchase a feed stick and the birds will fly right over to you and eat right off the stick in your hand!
There are designated feeding areas throughout the park and you can purchase cups of feed to feed the animals. And for the more adventurous, you can take a camel ride!
Of course, you can’t miss the open air safari. During this free bus ride, a tour guide will explain about the different animals and the park and you can learn about and feed zebra, emus, buffalo and other incredible animals!
Roer’s Zoofari offers different special events throughout the year as well. In December, they hosted a Chinese Lantern Festival where visitors enjoyed seeing more than 800 hand sculpted animal lanterns on display.
No matter what time of year you visit, you and your family will have a blast enjoying this unique park right outside of DC!
