Washington DC is only 68 square miles so remote isn’t a word that used to describe anywhere in the city. However, that doesn’t stop some creative architects and owners to create spaces that feel remote. Masseria in Union Market is the perfect example of this. When you want to stay in the city but feel like an escape, visit this almost remote restaurant in Washington DC.
Masseria was inspired by the country houses chef Nicholas Stefanielli remembers from his trips to Italy. It is the first free standing restaurant outside Union Market and as soon as you walk through the wooden walls, you are transported.
When you’ve walked inside you will find the charming courtyard with low couches and darling twinkle lights, gives the restaurant a Mediterranean feeling.
Once inside the restaurant, there is a stone and wood dining room that gives a cozy but rustic vibe.
The industrial Union Market neighborhood fades away once you are seated inside this delicious Italian restaurant that has a warm and welcoming vibe, like you would find at Sunday dinners with your Italian grandmother.
The whole restaurant is rustic and modern and was designed for both luxury and grit.
The food is also out of this world. There is a fixed price menu with three course for $62 and five courses for $84, both of which are meant to delight and satisfy you.
The food is accentuated with unique and impressive cocktails.
The food has different twists on Italian classics. You can order a focaccia bread box where the bread is served in a wooden box and the restaurant is known for its fresh ingredients.
Masseria is a hot spot for special evenings out, such as birthdays, anniversaries or special occasions with its intimate vibe and flavorful food.
Masseria is located at 1340 4th St NE between N Penn Street and N Neal Place. Reservations are recommended.
