1. Crab cakes
Unless you move to Maryland, it’s going to be hard to find a crab cake as good as the ones here in DC!
2. Ethiopian food
We are completely spoiled by our limitless options of delicious flavorful Ethiopian food here in Washington DC. It’s shocking for many of us to think that there are cities that don’t even have one Ethiopian restaurant!
3. Half smoke
Sure it doesn’t look very tasty. But every good Washingtonian knows that when the craving hits, there is no substitute for a delicious half smoke topped with chili and cheese.
4. Oysters
Whether you seek out the half price oyster happy hours or make the investment in a full priced option, oysters are a local favorite among DC and we have some of the best thanks to our close proximity to the Chesapeake. No other oysters taste quite as good.
5. Cupcakes
You can definitely find cupcakes in other states and cities but do you really want to? Probably not after having tasted the famous Georgetown Cupcakes or the local favorites at Baked and Wired.
6. Taiwanese Fried chicken
Normal fried chicken will never be the same to you! Taiwanese fried chicken is set, sticky a little bit spicy and extra crunchy. It’s so flavorful and satisfying that you may never go back to that normal fried chicken.
7. Jumbo slice
There are pizza slices and then there are jumbo slices. Nothing else will live up to the monstrous pizza slices that Washingtonians gobble up late in the evenings.
8. Falafel
The falafel in DC, specifically at Amsterdam Falafel is fried to perfection and has some of the tastiest toppings, of which you can choose as many or as little as you like. Pair it with a side of fries and your mouth will be drooling just thinking about it!
9. Pupusas
Pupusas look completely unassuming but don’t let their humble looks fool you. These tasty treats of fried tortillas stuffed with meats and cheese are absolutely delicious. We have so many restaurants in DC that serve fantastic pupusas and they are easy to miss once you’ve left the district.
10. Ramen
This is definitely not the ramen you can buy at the grocery store. The ramen craze hit DC a few years ago and the city never looked back. We still stand by the belief that DC’s ramen just might be the best in the country!
